JR Executives Leadership
Program is designed to develop leadership skills among youth by
creating a positive image, communication skills, and
opportunities that
will help them plan for success in their school, career, community, and
future work experiences. The program offers a format for these youth to
be exposed to educational opportunities in the state of Arizona. Our
Leaders (Youth) will receive 1.0 high school credit upon successfully
completing our program. JR Executives has
selected Blueprint
Education
as its curriculum provider. North Central Association
Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on
Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), and
the Commission on International
and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA) are accreditation
divisions of
AdvancED. The program
offers a format for these youth to
be exposed to educational
opportunities in the state of Arizona. We
all have a picture in our mind of the type of child that youth
mentoring works with. We see them in the news and hanging out on street
corners. We call them "troubled teens" or "at risk kids." However, many
other children who are common to youth mentoring are unseen, unnoticed,
withdrawn and too often friendless.
Children
growing up in very difficult circumstances need to experience love that
is expressed over time. Our leadership team will spend 20-30 hours with
the youth each month. The consistency of this commitment speaks loudly.
It says, "You are valuable. What you think about and the things that
bother you are important." It also gives the mentor the ability to
interact with the child in circumstances that cannot be planned into a
curriculum. You cannot schedule quality time or teachable moments.
However, when kids receive a few hours with a consistent mentor on a
weekly basis, these moments show up unannounced.
The beginning
of the Good News is always an understanding that we were made by God
who loved us enough to send a messenger. Until that message is
received, the words of the gospel don't make sense. Therefore, a mentor
is available for the long term, offering first his or her life, and
then the truth that leads to new life.
Arizona has one of the
highest high school dropout rates in the country. Nearly 50 percent of
all high school students in the state fail to graduate from high
school. Arizona also has one of the lowest college going rates in the
country about 25 percent. Thousands of Arizona high-school students
drop out of school annually. Many of these children are too old to go
to bed early and too young to drive, yet they abandon Arizona schools
at the rate of about 28,400 each year according to Arizona Department
of Education. Faced with the overwhelming task of finding a job in an
increasingly complex and challenging society, why would a
student leave
high school before graduating? JR Executives believes we may
have
some answers.
JR Executives program is modeled after other
successful programs in the state, but it is adapted to meet the needs
of the community. The staff at JR Executives is highly motivated to
assist to build the passion back into our Arizona youth. They work
alongside school administrators to identify and address key issues
affecting Arizona's education system. We've identified certain
behaviors associated with high school dropouts. We also discovered that
the dropout process can begin as early as kindergarten. This is
contrary to earlier thought that dropping out was more of an impulsive
act rather than a long-term process. Until recently, most dropout
intervention programs typically target high school students. JR
Executives Education and Leadership program assist middle and high
school students.
Educators may be overlooking important
developmental trajectories exhibited by students prior to entering high
school. Reducing Arizona's dropout rates requires a profound rethinking
of how to keep students in school. JR Executives have developed
innovative programs designed to make it easier for children to get from
middle school to high-school graduation. Projects address everything
from tracking struggling students to dropout intervention to increasing
parental involvement to locating scholarships for high-school graduates.
JR
Executives and Franklin Covey will be conducting The 7 Habits of Highly
Effective Teens and The 6 Most important Decisions You’ll Ever
Make workshop. Life for teens today is no longer a playground. It's a
jungle out there, with tough choices, peer pressure, personal
insecurities, and anxiety about what others think. Then consider
feelings of depression, inferiority, and jealousy of others' successes,
plus self-destructive behaviors
such as pornography, vandalism, and gangs. The 7 Habits of Highly
Effective Teens® workshop from FranklinCovey, based on the best-selling
book of the same name by Sean Covey and the No. 1 best-selling business
book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey,
gives young people a set of proven tools to deal successfully
with
real life. The training is a means for educators, administrators, and
superintendents to help improve student performance; reduce conflicts,
disciplinary problems, and truancy; and enhance cooperation and
teamwork among parents, teens, and teachers.
JR Executives will be conducting second level leadership training for
second year students. The 6 Most important
Decisions
You’ll Ever Make workshop helps students work through the following
important and life changing questions throughout the program, the Youth
Leaders activities are based on powerful concepts behind The 6 Most
important Decisions You’ll Ever Make. Youth Leaders can complete the
activities independently, or with instructors instruction, making the
most of instructional time and providing leaders with tools to deal
with life changes choices.
The activity guide follows a
well-researched instructional-design cycle and is simple enough to be
completed by leader in a self-directed manner. Instructor and
administrators have indicated the activity guide is ideal for use in a
10 month period.
The training is a means for JR Executives
staff to help improve student performance; reduce conflicts,
disciplinary problems, and truancy; and enhance cooperation and
teamwork among parents, teens, and teachers.
Candidates for the
Youth Leadership Program are recommended by parents, teachers,
churches, community, or affiliate youth leadership programs. Candidate
must have a desire to be a part of the program. Time in the program -
usually six months to one year - is based on several factors, including
the family support, academic compliance, etc. Local religious and
community organizations provide volunteer mentors who monitor the
fulfillment of the program requirements.
JR Executives is a
non-profit organization; however, tax deductible donations are accepted
and encouraged. There will be an application and interview selection
process that begins in August 2011. There is a non-refundable $125
registration fee.
